Subject: OT: Web forms that require telephone numbers. Posted on: Mon, 07 Jan 2008 09:47:13 +1100

I keep coming across web forms that cannot be submitted unless a phone
number has been supplied. I do not understand the logic by which one
perfectly effective communication medium should be compromised by
insisting on the provision of details relating to a different
communication medium.

To people who are deaf (I'm not [related smart-arse comments are highly
predictable and will be ignored]), the Internet must have been a Godsend
in improving their ability to use electronic communication, and I can
only imagine their frustration when they try to use web forms that
require telephone numbers.

When I find such forms, I usually notify the offenders, with varying
effect, but the task is endless.

Sylvia.
