Subject: Tasmanias Wood-Chip Industry Must Be Restructured Posted on: Mon, 14 Jan 2008 17:58:38 EST

Corporate welfare bludgers like Gunns and their mouthpieces within the
Tasmanian State Government have fought against it for decades. Anybody in
the industry that even suggested an end to native forest clear-felling was
ruthlessly sidelined. Critics like Richard Flannagan were asked never to
return to the island. Its the 'weeping ulcer' on Australia's environmental
scene and it has to end. They have millions of acres of taxpayer-funded
plantations to use. No jobs will be lost as workers shift-over to
mechanical removal of weeds and insect pests in the tree plantations
rather than aerial spraying carcinogenic chemicals that end-up in the
water supply. All Australians need to get onboard the push to save our
last high conservation forests from the greed of the few.
