Non-parliamentary record: letters patent to the justiciar north of the Forth
and other officials concerning the second teinds of Aberdeen and Banff
David, by the grace of God king of Scots, to the justiciar of the region
north of the Scottish sea or his lieutenants or lieutenant, also to the
sheriffs of Aberdeen and Banff and the provosts of the burghs and the
bailies of his said sheriffdoms and to other ministers to whom it concerns,
greeting. Because the venerable father Alexander, by the grace of God
[Alexander Kininmont]? bishop of Aberdeen, in our last parliament held at
Perth brought a temporality to us in pledge that Peter [de Ramsay], Hugh
[Benham] and Henry [Cheyne], bishops of Aberdeen of good memory, his
predecessors, were in possession of the second teinds of the fermes and
rents of the thanages, lands and burghs, and of the fines and escheats
contingent within the said sheriffdoms of Aberdeen and Banff, and that he
ought to have the same possession, to you and each of you to whom it
concerns, we strongly advise and mandate that you should make to be
released, to the extent that his said predecessors had the same sasine to
the aforementioned bishop of the said second teinds along with the arrears
of the terms past from the time of his entrance, inspecting letters, and
without delay. In testimony of which matter we ordered these letters, which
remain in his possession, to be made patent. At Perth on 1 April in the
first year of our reign [1 April 1330].
