The above article by the CBC is a bit ambiguous in that it paraphrases
a provision in Canada's Canada's Nationality law between 1947-1977:
"if you lived outside Canada on your 24th birthday and failed to sign
the right form, you automatically lost your citizenship."
What they should have included was that the above provision applied to
people who were Canadian citizens because they were born outside
Canada to a Canadian parent. Canadians born in Canada and living
outside the country did not have to file any form to retain Canadian
citizenship.
The article did go on to mention that the subject was born in the US
to a Canadian father, but it doesn't specifically say that this is the
reason that the requirement to file applied to her.
