I, like many others in this forum, am waiting for FBI name check while
my EAD card is expiring on May 12, 2005.
1. I mailed in I-765 for EAD renewal with a check of $175 on 2/16/05 to
the Chicago address on the form.
2. On 3/19/05, I still didn't get a receipt. I called the USCIS
custumer service and they suggest sending the application again,
assuring me that if I cancelled my $175 check I won't get a fine.
3. So I called my bank and cancelled the check and did an e-file of my
I-765 and paid $175 with my credit card. I printed out the receipt
online.
4. On 3/21/05, I received the receipt from the old I-765 application. I
made appointments and get my finger prints done for both receipts.
5. On 3/24/05, USCIS tried to cash the check for my old application and
got rejected. Within days, they sent me a bill of $175 plus $30 fine
for returned check. And they even called me on my cellphone, asking me
to pay. I really wish that they can show same efficiency and enthusiasm
in processing my case.
Now, friends, what do you think I should do? I do need my EAD card so
that I can work without losing status. But do you think I should pay
them for both cases? Will they cancel one of them? What's your
experience?
