Actually, not completely right.
The 5-year part is correct.
For the 3-year part, it doesn't matter if the GC was through sponsorship from a
US citizen spouse or through employment sponsorship.
What matters is that the applicant has been married to a US citizen for at least
3 years after getting the GC, still is married to the US citizen, and the US
citizen has been a US citizen all this time.
Having said that, for most people it will be a marriage-based GC. But I have
seen posts from people who got the GC through employment sponsorship and who
married a US citizen shortly thereafter. The 3-year rule applies to them as well.
