Dear Lili,
As Bob says, you can send in the letter and suggest another time for
the appointment. Being the paranoid person that I am, I would
worry...what if the USCIS didn't get the letter to change the
appointment. Adding this extra exchange to a system that is at the
mercy of the USCIS system and very stressful to begin with, I feel is
not worth it. Your friend has already spent a lot of money filing the
application forms - if there is some mix up about the appointment
time, is it worth the potential cost of having to refile the paperwork
again just to be spared a flight change fee?
This question arose for my husband and I. He was summoned for a
fingerprinting interview while we were to be on vacation. We both paid
the change fee to get back in time. Our appointment was in Albuquerque
and due to weather conditions in our departing city (in Virginia), our
flight was delayed overnight in Dallas the night before the
appointment. We were able to get the airline to fly us to El Paso and
we rented a car and drove all night to make it to the 8 am appointment
the next morning!
Good luck whichever way your friend decides.
Marie
