I think it would be difficult in a case where a person has died to not
perform an investigation at all but it might be reasonable in such a one as
this to see what the facts indicate before automatically arresting someone
on suspicion of murder. The more obvious assumption, barring any other
immediate evidence, would be suspicion of justified self defence. However
it's another set of prints and DNA regardless of what transpires and that
seems to be as important to plod these days as actually solving any crimes.
