And go where? Voting with our feet and other people voting with their
feet is one of the strongest protections we as consumers have.
DD works against this effect and hence the government and regulators
should watch very carefully how it is implemented. I am happy for
companies to offer cheaper rates based on the way that customers pay but
this should only be due to additional handling costs.
If they offer a discount for DD they should offer the same discount for
timely BACS payments.
4.50 per payment is also clearly too much.
