True, but this is a consideration to take in to account.

I expect that the instances of late/non payment are higher with non-DD
customers that with DD customers. In addition, I would imagine that
the processing/monitoring of the payment is more expensive for non-DD
customers as well

It doesn't seem (to me at least) that it is unreasonable for these
costs to be passed on to the appropriate customers. Having said that,
I would not agree with this as a means of making profit - the aim
should be to cover costs.
