That was my understanding, too, until this morning. The manager was
adamant and would not back down. I believe retailers are now finding
the economic downturn beginning to bite, as many shops are offering
special offers to tempt customers through the door. Maybe the retailer
in question has decided to brazen it out in the certain knowledge that
not many shoppers will bother to check, or can be fobbed off if they
do.

By the way, might be worth knowing that Somerfield (not the store with
the price label query) are far better with their special offers than
Tesco (not them either). Whereas Tesco tends to do BOGOFs, Somerfield
frequently offers items at half-price, which is far fairer for
singletons like me.
