Is this legal under current law on age discrimination?
The only guide I could find was this where article 7 seems to cover
it. But is this now law?

"A BAN on sales of alcohol to people under 21 has been rolled out to
every ward in a Teesside town.
Off-licences across Redcar are now refusing to sell booze to young
people on a Friday or Saturday night in a bid to stamp out yob
behaviour.
The ban involves every off-licence and shop which has signed up to the
agreement with Cleveland Police, and operates from 6pm to 11pm.
The scheme proved a success when it was piloted by Redcar and
Cleveland Neighbourhood Policing Team in parts of the district.
Police say the pilot areas saw a fall in reports of anti-social
behaviour.
It has also deterred young people from congregating outside shops.
Now the ban is operating in all six Redcar wards - Newcomen, West
Dyke, Coatham, Kirkleatham, Zetland and Dormanstown.
Inspector Andrew Bright, of Redcar Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:
“This initiative is a positive step forward. I welcome the support and
commitment of responsible outlets who have joined forces with us to
make a difference.”
The agreement is an extension of a scheme pioneered in Saltburn in
2005, which was then extended to Marske and Skelton.
Recently, off-licences in Marton and Nunthorpe joined in.
Two off-licences at Marton Shops, Tesco Express on Stokesley Road,
Discount Booze on Woodrow Avenue and on The Avenue in Nunthorpe,
signed up to the voluntary ban.
Redcar and Cleveland Council jointly co-ordinated the scheme with the
police.
Councillor Dave McLuckie, the cabinet member for community protection
and chairman of Cleveland Police Authority, said: “The project has
proved to be an important tool in the toolbox we use to combat
anti-social behaviour.”" |
