Certainly in my experience there is an accelerating trend for the UK police
to act badly, in a manner similar to the way many US police are trained to
behave.
For their own "health and safety" the police there will seek to gain
immdiate dominance over almost any situation, by very direct intimidation
and and aggressive behaviour.
Whilst it seems that it might be appropriate to behave in this way in some
areas of downtown United States, I suspect that our bobbies also find it
useful, to confront even those attempting to report crimes.
I seem possible that this behaviour could ultimately reduce unsolved crime
statistics in the bobbies area as it simply is not worth the hassle of
reporting matters to the police.
Equally, the bobby might have welcomed a counter charge against the original
"victim" as it then enables the bobby to report two potential crimes.
This can still be good for the crime stats as the bobby will interview both
parties and hopefully resolve the matter without it going furrther.
(The manner of the resolution, you may well find, is for the policeman to
tell both parties that if they persist in their claims and counter claims,
then both parties will face charges on some related offence.)
Both parties then decline to press matters further, but the bobby can now
record two incidents and can then "honestly" write, "solved" against both
incidents.
Good for crime stats., and very good for the bobby.
I am no right winger, nor a red under the bed, but I am very, very concerned
about the way the police are becoming (have become) my enemy, in almost all
situations.
A Little ....worried.
