Suing the police - possibly - the officer had little grounds for reasonable
suspicion, substantial damages would suffice.
Defamation - the communication might be privileged, there is no legal aid,
the costs are huge and in a one person's word against another case, success
uncertain - so I wouldn't bother. Moreover immediate arrest and overnight
custody might not be a foreseeable result of a complaint of minor common
assault. OTOH a solicitor's letter to sweat him a bit might be worth it.
