You don't get it, ask yourself what an identity is?

Your identity is what you have done, where you have been, what you have,
what you are owed. what you owe.

A bit of plastic with a number on it provides none of this information,
lists, records, databases do.

The bit of plastic with a number on it is a complete red herring, if there
is any value in carrying one around they will be cloned and forged, the
only security is in biometrics something which is harder to clone or forge.
To really prove your 'identity' you have to check biometrics against a
biometric database and that database will link you with all the other
databases it is only a question of how directly (just spitting out your
name and address is a link to most existing databases).

You can't fully trust the card without biometric checks and if you do
biometric checks the card is irrelevant and you might as well have your
'number' scribbled on a bit of paper.

The card is pointless it won't offer security but if everyone is forced to
carry one then every bastard will want to see it, from getting on a bus to
renting a video to buying a packet of fags (actually especially buying fags
and booze). Of course a clone or forgery will be just fine for these
everyday (or more like several times a day checks) which are not worth
taking biometrics and connecting to the biometric database to verify.

The card is a very bad idea which will make life a pain in the arse for the
law abiding and force criminals and terrorists to spend a few quid on a
forgery or clone (being unlucky enough to loose your card or have your card
cloned will a complete pain in the arse as well).

So, the card is an effing stupid idea and you don't like big brother which
is all that is left.....
