I've received unsolicited commercial email today from a marketing
company called Rupiz Media Ltd, trading as ePurpleMedia
(www.epurplemedia.co.uk) on behalf of a loan company called
Shapespeare Finance (www.shakespearefinance.co.uk). Both domains are
registered to the same address in Watford.
This spam was sent to a private email address. I have never had any
commercial relationship with either company, so the act of sending the
email appears to be a criminal offence under Section 22 of the Privacy
and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003
(http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2003/20032426.htm).
Since spam from apparently legitimate UK companies is still rare, it's
worth trying to keep it that way, so I intend to make a formal
compaint to the Financial Services Authority and to the Office of the
Information Commissioner requesting enforcement action against both
companies.
I'd be interested to know if anyone else reading this has received the
spam. Suggestions for any other ways of dealing with the matter will
also be appreciated.
Mike.
