I remember as a youth I had to sign a book each evening, then it got
dropped to 3 times a week, then one and then I think the signing was
dropped altogether. However I was charged and the case took 2 years to
bring to court. I don't think any of this is relevent though.

Have your soliciter contact the police, don't do it yourself IMO.
