I think they may show speed restrictions caused by temporary road works -
hence the need to subscribe to the update service and keep downloading those
updates.

I have a Garmin Nuvi that I was pleased with for a while, because I do like
to be warned of speed limits. It goes "ping" and a red band along the top of
the screen warns about a speed camera and tells you what the limit is - but
white on red isn't easily legible and when I lean closer to read the thing,
it gives me only a couple of seconds to do so before the warning clears.

I don't think the reviews really help very much when you want to pick a good
satnav. Fortunately they are now so cheap that you can afford to make a few
mistakes before settling on a good one. Just don't make the mistake of
getting the Becker TrafficAssist. When you need to get from A to B, a
message that tells you "cannot uncompress data" is a fiendishly evil way of
telling you that you have wasted your money.
