"During one call, on November 10, Stephens asked her a "strange"

Stephens had already been questioned by police and he was the number
one suspect in Tania's disappearance.
Ever since the murder of Tania, Tom Stephens was at pains to be at the
centre of the murder investigation. Being an ex cop he knew how they
would question him and how they would look for evidence.
Steve Wright was targetted by a clever and cunning killer who had
murdered Tania and was desperate to shift the blame on to someone and
prepared to murder other victims to succeed in that aim. Wright was
predictable and known to all the prostitutes as a straight . punter

drop off his . partner at the dark road and then pick her up to
commit the crime of murder and lay the blame on Wright.
