I've recently had cause to make a complaint to my Council about a noisy
neighbour.
Today, I received an letter, minus envelope, through my letterbox, from
an Environmental Health Officer regarding my complaint, which obviously
shows my name and address as well as the address of the person about
whom I've complained.
This letter was posted through my letterbox several hours after I had
already received my post. Whoever posted it did knock first, but I
couldn't get to the door at the time so I don't know who it was.
The best case scenario is that somehow the letter 'escaped' from the
envelope in the postman's bag and he delivered it later.
Alternatively, it may have been delivered to the wrong address and
whoever received it has brought it to me, although that could still be a
problem if that person is friends with the person I've complained about
and tells them.
The worst case scenario is that it was delivered to the person about
whom I've complained and he now knows.
Obviously, without knowing whose fault this is, it's hard for me to know
who to be angry with. The two most likely possibilities that I can
imagine are that a) the Council use cheap envelopes that don't stick
very well (I know this because the ones they include for replies always
require sticking down with sellotape!) and this resulted in the envelope
coming unstuck and the letter falling out into the postman's bag or b)
the postman delivered the letter to the wrong address.
Is there anything I can do to find out what happened so that I can
complain to the appropriate people and know who to hold accountable if I
suffer any repurcussions?
One sentence in the letter even says "Your identity will remain
confidential" which is rather ironic! |
