There's something disquieting about having your door kicked in or third
parties harassing you (or worse) in the street at the request of the
offender as well.
Just down the road from me, some kids have obviously taken a dislike to
someone and have been regularly starting fires in the communal area of
the block, with apparent immunity and despite the whole area being
covered with CCTV cameras. The best the police could do was to advise
the residents to take their doormats in, lest the kids set them on fire.
When this was happening about a year ago in my block, the Council
responded by banning mats from the communal areas, which considerably
degraded the appearance of them and totally ignored the fact that there
are plenty of other flammable materials (free newspapers, plastic bags
of recycled paper that we are required to leave outside our front doors)
that the kids could burn instead! |
