Brown is a bone headed incompetent.
It is so obvious he is using cannabis reclassification to try to look
like a sensible and tough man of action who doesn't shrink from Doing
The Right Thing. But it won't work. The ham fisted neanderthal hasn't
the brains to do the job properly.
He doesn't have the initiative over cannabis any longer. The
prohibitionist media and the Conservatives have been braying for
reclassification for a long time now and it's out of his hands. He has
to do it, he has no choice in the matter and it it won't look like it
is him who is doing it.
When he finally reclassifies to Class B he won't be seen as a decisive
man of action boldly taking the right decision. It will look like he
is doing what he has been told to do by the gutter press and the
Conservatives and that reclassifying is no more than is expected of
him
The media and the Conservatives will gloat over Labour's U turn over
cannabis. They will call Labours handling of drug issues a shambolic
and confused catastrophe, especially since the police have said they
won't enforce the law. The whole issue will blow up in his face and he
will be worse off than before. Poor Gordon. One could almost feel
sorry for him if he weren't such a ridiculous turd.
But there is a way Brown could turn the cannabis fiasco into a
resounding success, a way he could look like a bold and brave man of
action, silence his critics and restore his fortunes. At least in the
area of drugs policy.
He could say that the present drug classification system from 1971 is
out of date and no longer serves its purpose. He could say that the
old dangerous drugs act will be replaced with a newer and updated drug
law that reflects the dangers of the new, powerful and lethal skunk
cannabis that is filling our hospitals with thousands of mentally
damaged young people per week. He could announce that it will be an
all encompassing law that will provide new, robust measures for
protecting society, particularly the young and the vulnerable, from
the ravages of cannabis, ecstacy, cocain, crystal meth, cake and all
the other mind bending and devastating substances that have appeared
on our streets in the last forty years and are wreaking such a toll
of misery, destruction and death.
This would be a bold and imaginative move for Brown and it would
silence the pit bulls yapping at his heels and save his sad arse.
But Brown is too much of a dullard to see his chance and grasp it.
He'll reclassify to B, the drug warriors and prohibitionists will say
"We told you so", there will be an almighty row, Brown will be called
a fumbling vaccilator and emerge from the sorry affair covered in shit
and stinking twice as bad.
God, that man is so dumb.
