Or as used to happen (eg with British Rail Enquiries), queue at the
ringing tone so that you do not start paying until someone answers the
call.
Another aspect of the modern queueing system which I think should be
made illegal is the practice of cutting you off as soon as the 'open'
hours end irrespective of how long you have been waiting in the queue
(and paying for the call). If, at shop closing time, you are in the
queue for the checkout you are not instructed that the shop is closed
and to abandon your purchases and leave the store immediately. People
already in the queue (or store) will be served but nobody allowed to
enter the store. So should telephone help/sales/customer service lines
not do the same? |
