If in fact she had said something racially offensive it would explain
perhaps why she was attacked. I don't think we have any idea why they
attacked her. If she had stolen something from them, I daresay there are
some who would say that she deserved a good kicking.

Yes of course. But nobody would intervene unless they calculated that they
could do so without getting severely injured themselves.
