Because I don't think it provides value for money.

I don't think petrol tax provides value for money *to me*, and VAT certainly
doesn't. But I recognise that both provide value for money to society as a
whole, so I pay them (not that I have much choice). This is part of the
basic definition of the way life in the UK works - if you don't like it
you're perfectly free tp . off to some other country where they do things
differently.
