Yeah, that no lights on bikes - we 12-year-olds were REALLY given a
hard time by the police (1950s) for riding without lights. And this
was in the wilds of the Kentish countryside when there was very much
less traffic than today. I couldn't believe the first time I saw
someone riding without lights with total nonchalance. Then I realised
that the omission was no longer being policed. (Probably the cops are
far too busy tracking down shop owners with golliwog dolls in their
windows...)
