The mother weeping in court is an irrelevant detail. What is needed is a
proper explanation of what happened to the defendant. Convicted but given a
non custodial sentence? Acquitted because of some flaw in the prosecution
case? Hell, I bet the journalist was so pissed after his lunchtime trip to
the pub that he has no idea.

Both of which may easily be factually accurate. It doesn't mean he was
blaming the girl, or condoning the abuse.
