A friend has been an employee of a national chain store for several
years.
Six months ago one of his colleagues was sacked for fraud. My friend
was offered the sacked guys job. He's been doing that job since and is
on the appropriate pay scale.
This week the job has been advertised. He was never told the position
was simply covering another post. As far as he understood it, he had
got the job.
He has nothing in writing saying that he wasn't on a timed contract,
or simply covering a post.
To me it looks like he's buggered - he should have had the post
confirmed as permanent in writing. But if anyone can think of any
reason why the store shouldn't advertise the post, then it would be
appreciated...!
