welcomed .'

A "high-risk" paedophile who groomed and abused an 11-year-old girl
while on her school lunch break walked free today after a judge said
she "welcomed .".
Jon Dixon, 20, told the youngster to lie to her parents as he arranged
to meet her at a shopping centre and school after the pair met through
the internet.
He also molested the girl after texting her in lessons to meet during
her lunch hour from her primary school, Manchester Crown Court heard.
The pair exchanged 900 text messages - of graphic .ual nature from
both sides, over a two-week period, after the girl first claimed to be
aged 20.
After the girl told him she was in fact 12 he continued to "pursue"
her, the court heard, with more .ual text messages and asked for
.ographic photos before they met.
Dixon, of Eccles, Greater Manchester, was assessed as being
"manipulative and predatory" and poses a "high risk of serious harm"
to children by the probation service.
But Judge Robert Atherton rejected the probation report findings -
saying the girl "welcomed" .ual activity which was not forced, was
"inappropriately aware" of ., and Dixon had not specifically sought
out a child on the internet.
Instead, he referred to a psychologist's report concluding Dixon was
not a high risk to young girls but was immature and needed help.
As her mother wept in court, the statement from her father was read
out in court.
It said: "He was 19 and she was 11, which in my mind is wrong.
"He was the adult in this, he must seriously know the difference
between right and wrong. He could have walked away."
Passing a three-year community order, Judge Atherton said he had
"little optimism" Dixon would get treatment in the Prison Service - as
the population was at a record high.
He added: "The fact is, she expresses herself in relation to .ual
matters with an awareness which would make many twice her age blush
and one hopes would be rare for an 11-year-old to experience.
"The public expect . offenders to go to custody. Is it right to put
a 20-year-old man with all the .ual awareness he's demonstrated and
occasionally carried out, into custody for a substantial time?
"Or is the public interest better served by addressing those
psychological, personal difficulties which he has, and doing so in the
community?"
Dixon met the girl on the Flirtomatic website, on February 20 last
year - she claiming to be 20, and the pair began to exchange .ual
text messages and emails.
He was "clearly shocked" two weeks later when she said she was 12 -
although in fact her real age was 11.
"It was clear the defendant's attitude and intentions towards her had
not changed despite her saying she was only 12," Jonathan Dickinson,
prosecuting, told the court.
On march 15 last year Dixon met the girl in her lunch break from
school and .ually assaulted her, the court heard.
Two days later they met again when Dixon tried to . the girl in an
alleyway.
But days later the mother of one of the girl's friends contacted the
family after speaking to her own daughter, and Dixon was arrested.
He claimed he had only kissed the girl at her request - but later
pleaded guilty to meeting a child following .ual grooming, .ual
assault of a child and attempted ..
Dixon punched the air in relief outside court after being released. He
was made to sign the .ual Offenders Register for five years.
The girl's father said he was "not happy", but was too emotional to
speak further. |
