If we had no media, we wouldn't know about it at all. Only those in
the immediate neighbourhood would know anything about the case. I
would think this is a good thing. Take Burma. In typical fashion, the
Today programme is now wall-to-wall Burma. Burma, Burma, BURMA! Every
ten minutes or so, another talking head comes on, says his piece then
buggers off and the Today team tick another box. It was the same with
Dafur, with Kenya, with the Asian tsunami. Today gets the bit between
its teeth and it's orf! But what can I do about Burma? Sweet FA. Apart
from donating something. Yet Burma is rammed down my throat, as if
somehow it's MY fault that the wind blew. The media cause more harm
than good in many cases. For example, they tell us someone has been
brutally murdered 400 miles away and that helps me how, exactly?
