The Labour government has always made it perfectly clear that it isn't
interested in the views of the chattering classes. It listens to the Daily
Mail and to Rupert Murdoch, and maybe to its "focus groups" of carefully
selected average people.
I don't suppose the Home Secretary, who used cannabis at university but
didn't really enjoy it all that much, even values her own opinion. When will
we ever hear a politician say that he/she has used cannabis occasionally
even within the last five years, and finds it enjoyable? It should be the
ultimate test of honesty. David Cameron, this could be your finest hour. At
times, Cameron has given in to the temptation to be honest. He isn't the
stuck-up hypocritical Old Etonian that the Left make him out to be. Unless
of course the Tories have given him a Stepford Wives-style brain transplant
since those heady days when he wrote for the Guardian in his lively and
intelligent columns:
