This reminds me of a service that was being hawked around landlords a
few years ago. It was a tenants database, and subscribing landlords
would lodge information about their tenants, rent arrears, damage, that
sort of thing and other landlords would be able to log in and check out
any history when new tenants applied.

I remember asking him about data protection issues. He suggested that
there were two ways forward for data protection issues;

1. Insist that every tenant sign a waiver to allow the landlord to write
what they wanted about them.
2. Ignore data protection because nobody would ever really know.

I asked what happened if people did know. For example, if a tenant
discovered some thing on their that was wrong, what systems did they
have in place to correct errors.

He beamed as he told me that the only way tenants could communicate with
them was via a premium rate telephone number so they even made money out
of mistakes.
