Nigel Gray was a mug and I am surprised he was not charged with
criminal damage. Any reasonable builder would have asked for a
substantial deposit up front when working on a tenanted house and
would have made sure he had stage payments to cover his out-of-pocket
expenses.

Once he handed over the completed job to the tenants, the property in
the materials belonged to the tenants or the council. As he was so
stupid as to do the job without money up front, his only legal remedy
was to sue the tenants and hope for the best.
