I don't normally do this hereabouts as I tend to take people at their word
but if you can I'd like to see a cite for this. I belive that you've
misremembered police have the power to direct traffic any which way they
please, against ATS, down one way streets, in to congestion zones and so on
ad infinitum and it is an absolute defence (assuming that the driver isn't
driving dangerously/carelessly) to establish if summonsed for an alleged
offence of teh type describe to show that you were directed in that
direction by a police officer.
