used to work a shift pattern, 2 days 2 nights four off.. 10 week cycle
last 14 days as holiday (so in effect an 18 day holiday on the end of
the shift pattern).

came to leave, handed my notice in during a four day gap right before my
final four shifts. handed it to reception, apparently they had to open
all letters for 'security' no problem, got a reciept stating it was my
letter of resignation.

came in first day, nothing said.
second day nothing said
nothing said on nights.

btw I told my team leader ont he first day, seemed the right thing to do.

18 days gap

1st day back, nothing said
2nd day back, half three.. asked to go to managers office....

told that my notice only ran from when they recieved it, which i agreed
and showed them a copy of the reciept.. no they said from when *they*
recieved it.. told them the company had got it weeks earlier, the fact
he had only just opened it wasn;t my problem.

told HR the same thing ten minutes later at the 'exit interview' which
was very brief. I told them I was leaving for another job, nothing more,
no point burning bridges.

did my two night shifts the second of which the boss had left a note i
was to be escorted off the site at the end of the shift, well i handed
all my passes etc in. they didn't want my work boots, but then neither
did i..

i was asked to escort myself off site, since it was raining and the
guard said "I'm not that petty", but could i tick a box to say i had
been escorted off. no problems.

i dare say holiday is the same, you have given them the correct notice,
the fact you are on leave for the last bit of it is not your issue.
indeed how elese would you get the holidays?
