You might even have a cause of action against the tree surgeon. He
should have checked whether the three neighbours had authority to cut
down the trees.

An interesting legal question is what tenants are allowed to do to the
house garden during their tenancy. Would they have been entitled to
"employ the services of a tree surgeon that chopped and looped much of
the garden?"
