oh indeed.. consider this:
you get a parking ticket, doesn't really matter how or if its justified
or not.
the private firm running this, because they work for the LA have access
to some of this data, now they obviously get the cars keeper details
from the DVLA, as now. first thing they do is check *thier* records, hmm
you have two or three tickets before, the first few you paid up, the
last one you fought, but lost. so they decide to send the ticket out
now you decide to fight this one, so they do a data access trawl on your
ISP and phone records.. hmm.. you have been looking at sites on how to
fight parking tickets.. oh and a few newsgroups as well.. hmm..
they also see you make few on line financial transactions, and the main
database (now tied to financial records) indicates you don't spend much
and have a poor credit rating. thier computers find all this out for
them with minimal intervention.
so now they know, you have looked for advice on fighting parking
tickets, but don't have a huge amount of cash, so probably no legal
advice, at least the records don't show you contacted a lawyer last
time.. oh and you haven't yet either.
so now they send a 'settlement' offer with some nasty words on what may
happen if you fight it.
meanwhile, you have applied for a storecard, the credit check comes back
indicating a manual check or further info is required.. they decide to
pull your records too, to 'prevent fraud'. they see you are fighting the
parking ticket.. obviously not the type to just roll over, hell you may
decide to fight charges.. application denied.
now the system shows you are fighting a parking ticket.. so the main
system has you and your car reg flagged 'potential trouble maker' so the
cameras on the motorways check you for average speeds point to point..
if they find anything its flagged for investigation.. oh and theres a
court case pending for a traffic violation, better send a copy to the
parking firm showing your obvious disregard for the law...
btw the above could be mostly automatic as well..
data protection.. bwah.. we have terrorists to fight.
the privatisation of law enforcement for big companies and 'civil'
penalties is coming, and this will be the back bone.
once you have a record of fighting things.. they will *always* turn up,
and have a lawyer in tow to boot.
oh and if you object, i'm sure something will indicate your computer
needs to be seized for 'further investigation'.. after all can't have
you looking up ways to fight back can we.
oh and forget legal privilidge regarding comms with your solicitor, they
will all be logged
extreme?
ask yourself this... if it can be automated, and remember the database
will have 'to pay for itself' so methods that make profitable searches
will be added.. do you think it won't happen? councils already invoke
this sort of power to spy on 3 year olds.
oh and of course someone will wonder if the purchases made by a
terrorist can be tracked and analysied.. this will be denied as 'not
worth the expense of developing'.
its first usage i dare say will be to keep tabs on people who fight id
cards... and if you dare to look up something on fuel protests expect
your door kicked down.. |
