Ask the rental places. I know Budget won't rent to US citizens who are
still within 3 years of a DUI, but others may be different.

I've rented cars from Budget, Avis and Alamo in the US, and none of
them have ever looked at the paper part of my licence which would have
any convictions written on it - but it's not something I'd want to risk
if I didn't have a clean licence. I'm not sure if they can bring up
convictions electronically these days or not (probably not).

Note that some US rental companies charge extra for non-US residents, and
some don't care; shop around.
